Salad is a delicious and easy way to eat healthy. there are many different types of salads, some healthier than others. and just because you eat a salad, this does not mean it is healthy. some dressings such as ranch and caeser are high in fat. my favorite type of salad is Mediterranean salad with a little bit of oil and vinegar.
- sliced tomatoes
- avocado cut into cubes
- cucumbers cut into thin slices
- purple unions
- grilled chicken
- kalamata olives
- feta cheese
After you mix all of these ingredients poor a little bit of oil and vinegar on top and it is ready to eat!
A salad i grew up eating and I absolutely love is Israeli salad. Here’s the recipe!

Fruit water is becoming very popular and it is great for you! It is a great way to get natural sugars, drink plenty of water, and intake many vitamins. There are many different ways to make your own fruit water. It is super easy and delicious! It is a great drink to have by the pool or at dinner.
Here are some recipes for different types of fruit water
Lemon/Lime Cucumber water
- half of a lemon thinly sliced
- half of a lime thinly sliced
- one fourth of a cucumber thinly sliced
- two cups of ice
let the lemon, lime, and cucumber soak in the water for about 30 minutes before drinking.
Ginger orange water
- one orange thinly sliced
- take a chunk of a ginger root and slice it very thin
- two cups of ice
add the ingredients to the water and let it soak for about an hour. then place it in the refrigerator to cool it. This drink may taste strong or bitter for some.
With finals coming up, many of us are indulging ourselves on many foods that maybe aren’t the best for our bodies. So here are a few ways that you can detox you body after finals end. A detox is a great way to wipe your body clean and start over fresh.
7 ways to detox:
1. eat plenty of fiber
- this includes brown rice, broccoli, seaweed, artichokes, and cabbage
2. Make sure to take vitamin C, this will help expel toxins from your body
3. To help your liver drink plenty of green tea and other herbal teas
4. drink plenty of water. make sure to drink at least 1 1/2 quarts per day
5. Try to be more conscientious of your breathing and take bigger and deeper breaths. this will help circulate more oxygen throughout your body
6. Spend time in a sauna to sweat. this will eliminate toxins through your pores
7. Make sure to exercise! Yoga and Pilates are great for your body
Ice cream is one of my favorite desserts. Ice cream is great on a hot Texas day. there are an insane amount of ice cream flavors, some better than others. But personally coffee ice cream is my favorite, and Haagen Dazs has the best coffee ice cream, but unfortunately, I’ve only seen it sold by the pint, not gallon. Maggie Moo’s also has a delicious cappuccino flavored ice cream. Another personal favorite is mint chocolate chip. Blue bell makes fantastic mint chocolate chip ice cream but i absolutely love Ben and Jerry’s mint chocolate chip ice cream. But as seen before with the coffee ice cream, I’ve only bought it by the pint, not gallon. Something new that I’ve tried is gelato. I didn’t think i would like it because i have heard on many occasions that it is very thick and rich. But one very adventurous day, i was browsing the ice cream isle at the grocery store and i stumbled upon tiramisu gelato. It looked delicious so i decided to try it. I am hooked! It’s delicious and i highly recommend it!
Fish is delicious and very healthy for you. It is easy to digest and is high in protein and Omega-3. There are many different types of fish. Personally, salmon and halibut are my favorites. Fish is easy to cook and can be made in many different ways. Fish can be grilled, cooked in a pan, and cooked in the oven.
- Dijon mustard
- Soy sauce
- Lemon or lime
- Salt and pepper
mix the marinade and brush it onto the filet. be sure to rub it on the sides, not only the top. This is great grilled or baked in the oven

- Olive Oil
This is a great marinade for grilled Halibut. you can mix all of this and put it on the fish before you grill it or you can marinade the fish with lime, salt, pepper, and olive oil. then in a pan, mix butter, cilantro, garlic, and lime. then when pour it over the fish when it is served.
Fruit provides us with many essential nutrients and it is imperative that we eat the correct serving of fruit. It is important to not eat too much fruit because although it contains natural sugars (which is better for you than artificial sugar), it is not good to eat too much. You should aim for 2 cups of fruit per day. Fruit is good for you because it contains fiber, antioxidants, and many vitamins.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie:
- 1 cup of fat-free plain greek yogurt
- 3 bananas peeled and cut into pieces
- 3 1/2 cups of strawberries with stems removed
- 1/2 cup of soy or skim milk
- 1/2 cup of ice
- 1 1/2 cups of strawberries sliced in half without the stem
- 1/2 cup of green grapes sliced in half
- 2 cups of sliced pineapple
- 2 apples, cubed
- 3 kiwis, sliced
- 1 cup of raspberries
- 1 cup of blackberries
- 1/2 cup of pomegranate seeds

Cows that produce organic milk are given organic feed or roam freely and graze on grass that has not been sprayed with pesticides. Also, these cows are not given growth hormones to increase their milk production or injected with different antibiotics to prevent illnesses. Although there are many benefits to this milk, it can sometimes cost up to twice as much as regular milk.
Soy milk comes from mature soy beans; it is usually mixed with water and a natural sweetener. Soy milk is low in saturated fat and is cholesterol-free. It is a little bit thicker than regular cow’s milk. Also, it is usually safe for individuals with dairy allergies or who are lactose-intolerant.
